Simon Moore is an ordinary man who leads a rather extraordinary life. He was born with a condition known as Treacher Collins. The genetic problem means that his facial structure is very different to that of other people. He will often be stared at in the street by strangers who don’t know what’s ‘wrong’ with him.
Many people thought that this condition would stop him leading a fulfilling life. They never imagined that he would marry the woman of his dreams or that he would be a father.
So, many were shocked when he and his wife announced that she was pregnant. Of course, there was an extremely high chance that the baby would also have the condition.
Shortly after the announcement, the couple was shocked to find how people reacted. While the thought that the world would be happy for them, that was not always the case.

The backlash from this was so appalling that it really hurt the pair of them. Many people said that Simon’s wife ought to have an abortion just in case the baby had the condition. It was a horrific time for them both. They should have been celebrating starting a new family, but they had to contend with judgement from strangers.
Still, those closest to them supported them throughout the process. They were just so pleased that the couple was able to start a family together.
What’s more, when the pair decided to keep the baby, regardless of any medical implications, the community members were very understanding.
After they had their child, they wanted to share just one message with the world. It was clear that some people disapproved of their decision, but they had to set the record straight.

In a YouTube video, the couple explained what happened around that time. Their baby was born with the condition, but that does not change the way that either of them feel about her! In fact, they have fought for her to lead a normal life just like her dad.
Here’s what they wrote in the caption:
Simon Moore, 30, who’s also profoundly deaf, has always been bullied and would hide indoors to avoid the stares of strangers. His life changed when his hearing dog Foggy, introduced him to Vicky, 36, at a sign language class five years ago and the pair married in 2012. The wanted a family so started IVF and made the decision to keep baby Alice when tests showed she also had the condition known as Treacher Collins Syndrome (TC). They had been offered a special IVF process which included state-of-the-art preimplantation genetic diagnosis to screen for the TC gene that Simon carried. The treatment would search for and destroy any embryos that carried the faulty gene.
When you hear what the two of them have to say about their baby girl, it will make your heart melt. It is clear that this is a very loved child!
