Yamile Jackson was ecstatic at the thought of finally being able to meet her first child for the first time. The pregnancy had gone really well and she couldn’t wait to give birth. However, in the sixth-month pre-eclampsia occurred, this is a dangerous disorder which causes very high blood pressure and other worrying conditions.
Yamile had to give birth right away if she had any chance of saving herself or the baby. It was 12 weeks before the due date. The preemie was delivered and only weighed 2.5 pounds. His first 155 days would need to be spent in ICU.
Yamile spent every day by her child’s side. She hated leaving her alone in ICU.
